The Wimberley Players performers will take the stage to present the Ken Ludwig farce, “Lend Me a Soprano,” April 25.
The story follows Lucille Wiley, manager of the Cleveland Grand Opera Company, as she awaits the arrival of world-renowned soprano Elena Firenzi to play the lead in a onenight- only production of the opera, “Carmen.” It’s a laugh a minute as hijinks ensue involving identity confusion, comical misunderstandings and preposterous situations that lead to a series of adventures and misadventures.
The madcap comedy by the award-winning playwright known for “Moon Over Buffalo” made its world premiere in September 2022 on Houston’s Alley Stage. The woman-led show is a role reversal of Ludwig’s Tony Award-winning script, “Lend Me a Tenor.”
The cast features Sherri Small as Mrs. Wylie, Jade Kelly as Jo, Noah Tarnow as Jerry, Elisabeth Anne Steigelman as Elena Firenzi, Clint Herzik as Pasquale, Melinda Ellisor as Bellhop, Karin Cunningham as Julia and Parker Dial as Leo.
The production is directed by Whitney Marlett and produced by Danny Mosier.
“If the news has you down, ‘Lend Me a Soprano’ will give you just the escape you need,” said director Whitney Marlett. “A mix of mistaken identities, prat falls, fireworks and beautiful singing makes for the perfect vacation from reality.”
The show runs Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through May 18 at the Wimberley Players, located at 450 Old Kyle Road. Friday and Saturday performances are at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2:30 p.m.
Tickets may be purchased in advance online for all “Lend Me a Soprano” performances at wimberleyplayers. org. Ticket prices are $30 for adults and $20 for students with ID.
