Austin-based singer- songwriter and former frontman of The Ugly Americans and The Scabs, Bob Schneider is one of the live music capital’s most-celebrated musicians. Combining diverse styles, his music spans genres, blending elements of folk, rock, rap, funk, bluegrass, reggae and country with the more traditional singer-songwriter aesthetic. In short, FRUNK.
Schneider will be performing at the Wimberley Playhouse April 29 as part of the Stars Over Wimberley Concert Series presented by the Wimberley Valley Arts and Cultural Alliance. The April 30 show sold out immediately and a second show on April 29 was added.
Schneider has won more than 59 Austin Music Awards including Best Album, Best Songwriter, Best Musician, and Best Male Vocals, making him the most decorated artist in Austin music history.
His fan base reaches far beyond the city limits of Austin. He began gaining national recognition with his major-label debut for Universal Records, “Lonelyland.”
A fiercely-independent artist, Schneider opted to start his own label, Shockorama Records, which has afforded him the freedom to make the music his fans love.
His live performances, both solo and with the band, are legendary. A two-time performer on Austin City Limits, Schneider is also in the twentieth year of his residency at The Saxon Pub.
Besides playing over a hundred shows a year, he has released at least 20 solo albums, four more with The Ugly Americans, and an additional four with The Scabs. The highly prolific artist has approximately ten unreleased albums, 15 demo collections and live recordings that he shares with fans. He has written over a dozen books and has contributed songs to at least ten high-profile movie soundtracks and a television sitcom.
In 2023, Schneider released “FAYM,” a crowd-funded graphic novel with illustrations by Justin Barker from a story based on his longtime rock opera project of the same name.
The Wimberley Players doors open at 7 p.m. and the performance begins at 7:30. Tickets are $60 and available at starsoverwimberley. org. The Wimberley Playhouse is located at 450 Old Kyle Rd.
Stars Over Wimberley Benefit Concert Series is a collaboration between the Wimberley Valley Arts and Cultural Alliance, or WimberleyArts. org, and the Wimberley Players.
Their mission is to showcase Texas musical artists and support the Robert Moreman Memorial Scholarships for creative Wimberley graduating high school seniors.
