In a pair of thrilling games, the Texans pulled off the two-game sweep of the Fredericksburg Battlin’ Billies to stay undefeated in district play and maintain their district lead.
Wimberley improves their record to 14-3-1 overall and their district record to 6-0.
In the first game of the two game series, the Texans hosted the Billies on Tuesday night.
Wimberley struck first in the district contest in the bottom of the first inning. After hitting a leadoff triple, Bryson Anderson later took home on a wild pitch and gave the Texans the 1-0 lead.
Later in the same at-bat, Cody Stoever scored a run for the Texans, hitting a sacrifice fly deep right field, putting the Texans up 2-0.
Wimberley added on their lead in the bottom of the third inning. With Sage Hall at first base, Stoever connected with a double as Hall beat the throw home, adding another run for the Texans to go up 3-0.
Fredericksburg answered back in the top of the fourth inning. Scoring on a bases loaded walk, the Billies tied the game on a two-run RBI single, making the score 3-3. In the same inning, the Billies took advantage of a Texans fielding error to score two more runs and go up 5-3.
But Wimberley was not done just yet. In the bottom of the fifth inning facing two outs and runners on second and third, Stoever connected with a three-run home run in left field, giving the Texans a 6-5 lead.
The Texans added on to their lead in the bottom of the sixth inning when Anderson hit an inside-the-park home run, making it a 7-5 game.
The Billies made one last comeback attempt in the top of the seventh. Following a bases loaded walk that scored another run for Fredricksburg, the Billies scored on a wild pitch, tying the game at 7-7. Pitcher Ty Thames prevented another run from scoring by ending the at-bat with a strikeout.
The Texans tried to win the game in the seventh inning but were unable to bring the game winning run, sending the game into extras.
In the bottom of the ninth, both the Billies and the Texans were still tied at 7-7. Though Fredericksburg looked to extend the game, senior Wyatt Yeatter had other ideas.
Facing a 3-1 count, Yeatter smashed the ball over the wall in left field for the walk-off home run as Wimberley defeated Fredericksburg 8-7.
In the second game of the series, the Texans made the trip out to Fredericksburg, looking to sweep the Billies.
Yeatter scored the first run for the Texans, hitting a sacrifice fly into right field to score Anderson at third and put Wimberley up 1-0.
The Billies answered back with three runs in their first at-bat, taking the lead going into the second inning at 3-1.
In the top of the third, the Texans took the lead back. Thames connected with an RBI double, cutting the deficit down to 3-2. Later in the same at-bat, Gentry McGinn- is hit a two-run RBI single, taking the lead back for Wimberley at 4-3.

Facing a 2-0 count with one out and a runner at second, Jacobs smashed a two-run homer over the wall in left field, giving the Texans a 6-4 lead.
The Billies scored a run in the bottom of the sixth to make it a 6-5 game before the Texans scored on a Fredericksburg error to make the final score 7-5.
Wimberley will put their undefeated district record on the line this week when the Texans face off with the rival Navarro Panthers. The Panthers enter the showdown with a 17-2 overall record and a 5-1 district record. Last week, Navarro swept Bandera in a two-game sweep.
Game 1 is scheduled for Tuesday at Navarro while Game 2 is scheduled for Thursday in Wimberley. Both games will start at 7 p.m.
