The Texans split their district games this week, beating the Bandera Bulldogs on Tuesday and falling to the Fredericksburg Battlin’ Billies on Friday.
Wimberley’s overall record goes to 10-14 and their district record falls 6-2.
On Tuesday, the Texans faced off with the Bandera Bulldogs in the final home game of the regular season.
Wimberley struck first when Grace Strobel grounded out to score Emorie Gahan at third base and give the Texans a 1-0 lead. The Texans later scored on a Bulldogs fielding error to extend their lead to 2-0.
Julia Leonard scored another run for the Texans in the same inning, hitting an RBI single to go up 3-0.
In the second inning, the Texans scored again on another Bandera fielding error, going up 4-0. In the next at-bat, Ella Patek connected with a two-run RBI triple, putting the Texans up 6-0.
Reagan Kenley added another run for the Texans, hitting a sacrifice fly to score another Wimberley run and extending the lead to 7-0.
Bailey Wright scored for the Texans in the bottom of the third inning, hitting a groundout to score Gahan from third. In the same inning, Kenley grounded out to score Patek at third and push the lead to 9-0. Facing runners on the corners, Leonard hit a two-run RBI single and made the score 11-0.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Strobel added two more runs with an RBI double before a RBI single from Julia Leonard made it a 14-0 game.
Kenley scored the final run of the Texans, scoring on a passed ball to seal the win at 15-0.
On Friday, the Texans made the trip to Fredericksburg for a showdown with the Battlin’ Billies and the winner taking the district lead.
The Texans struck first in the top of the first inning. Emma Lewis connected with a three-run RBI double to go up 3-0 over the Billies.
Unfortunately for Wimberley, it marked the last time the Texans held the lead. Fredericksburg scored 13 unanswered runs and defeated the Texans 13-3.
Wimberley will close out the season on the road with back to back district road games. The Texans will travel to Davenport on Tuesday and play Navarro on Thursday. Both games will start at 7 p.m.
