A night of jazz fun and funds

The Wimberley Valley Big Band welcomes guest performer, Aubrey Logan, a wellknown jazz trombonist and vocalist, to play at their tribute concert and fundraiser, “A Night of Jazz Fun and Funds,” April 26 at the Wimberley Valley Winery on Lone Man Mountain Road.

The performance honors the late John Logan, who played with the WVBB until his untimely death from pancreatic cancer in 2023. The fundraiser will go directly to MD Anderson to fund research into pancreatic cancer.

WVBB’s trumpet section came up with the idea of a fundraiser to celebrate Logan, his talent and his life. “John was such a great guy, and he left us so quickly. We are glad to do something for him. We miss him,” said trumpet player Steve Merrett.

WVBB President, John Greer, a former grant writer in the Texas Medical Center, made the necessary arrangements. A link on the WVBB website, wimberleyvalleybigband. org, will allow music lovers to donate “In memory of” or “IMO John Logan.”

“It is especially touching that Aubrey can perform with us that evening. As Logan’s daughter, her presence at the concert not only underscores his talent but their connection as father and daughter,” said Greer. “It allows us, the musicians who made music with him, to remember him fondly in a language he would surely understand.”

Aubrey Logan, a professional jazz singer and trombonist who tours widely and is followed on social media by 58,000 fans, performs often at Austin venues such as Parker Jazz Club, Monk’s Jazz Club, and Austin City Limits when she is not touring.

“I’m looking forward to this opportunity to perform with the Wimberley Valley Big Band to remember my father with people who knew and appreciated his talent. It is going to be a special evening.”

The concert will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Wimberley Valley Winery on the outdoor deck. Listeners can bring their own chairs to sit on the lawn or use the chairs on the deck. Wine and food is available for purchase. The Winery is located at 2825 Lone Man Mountain Rd. in Driftwood.
