Texans softball remains in first place

The Texans split their district games this week, losing to Davenport on Tuesday before beating Canyon Lake on Friday.

Wimberley’s overall record goes to 9-14 while their district record goes to 5-1 that forces a three-way tie between Davenport and Fredericksburg.

In their game on Tuesday, the Texans faced off with the Davenport Wolves. Ella Patek scored first for the Texans, hitting a solo home run over the wall in center field to put the Texans up 1-0.

After being held scoreless through three innings, the Wolves answered back. Davenport took the lead on a Texans fielding error, scoring two runs and going up 2-1. In the same inning, Davenport scored two more runs on a tworun RBI single, extending the Wolves’ lead to 4-1. In the top of the fifth inning, Davenport hit consecutive home runs before scoring on a RBI double in the sixth inning to lead 7-1.

The Texans scored in the bottom of the sixth inning on a Grace Strobel RBI single but were unable to complete the comeback losing 7-2.

Looking to bounce back, Wimberley was back on the road in a district showdown with the rival Canyon Lake Hawks.

WImberley once again scored first in the first inning as Strobel hit an RBI triple to put the Texans up 1-0. Emma Lewis then scored Strobel on an RBI single to extend the lead 2-0. The Texans later scored on a Canyon Lake fielding error, ending their atbat up 3-0.

The Hawks answered back with a two-run RBI single in the first inning, cutting Wimberley’s lead down to 3-2. Canyon Lake later tied the game at 3-3 following a RBI single in the bottom of the third.

In the next at-bat, Wimberley retook the lead on another Canyon Lake fielding error to score on run. Reagan Kenley then hit a fly ball into left field with the bases loaded only for the Hawks to miss the catch. All three baserunners scored for the Texans, putting Wimberley up 7-3.

However the Hawks were not finished yet. In the bottom of the fifth inning, Canyon Lake hit back to back RBI doubles along with scoring on a passed ball, cutting the Texan lead down to 7-6.

But Canyon Lake was unable to score any more runs as the Wimberley defense held on to complete the 7-6 win.

Wimberley will be back home Tuesday night for the final home game of the season against Bandera before going on the road to Fredericksburg on Friday. Both games start at 7 p.m.
