The Lady Texans made history last week by not only winning the program’s first ever regional title but punching their ticket to the 4A Division II State Championship Game after beating El Campo on Friday.
Wimberley improves their overall record to 24-1-2.
Playing in the 4A D2 Region IV Final, the Lady Texans faced off with the Corpus Christi London Pirates.
Wimberley jumped out on London in the first half, scoring four goals and going into halftime up 4-0. The Lady Texans added two more goals in the second half while the defense kept the Pirates off the scoreboard to seal a 6-0 win and Wimberley’s first ever regional title.
Sophomore Dylan Watson and senior Haley Lopez both scored two goals against the Pirates while juniors Jordin Donaldson and Lili Sandoval both added one goal.
Sandoval had two assists for the Lady Texans while Watson, Lopez, senior Addison Laney, freshman Abby Durking all had one assist.
Advancing to the state semifinal game, the Lady Texans met the El Campo Ricebirds. The Ricebirds enter the game against the Lady Texans with an 24-3-1 overall record, taking second place behind Bay City in District 22. During the playoffs, El Campo defeated Sweeny and Giddings, the latter coming in penalty kicks. The Ricebirds then defeated Hamshire- Fannett before beating Lorena in the 4A D2 Region III title game.
Similar to the Lady Texans game against London, Wimberley blitzed El Campo in the first half, scoring three goals against the Ricebirds. In the second half, the Lady Texans added another goal while the Wimberley defense once again kept the opposing offense off the scoreboard to seal a 4-0 win.
Sandoval scored two goals for the Lady Texans while Donaldson and Lopez both scored one goal. Watson, Sandoval, Durkin all had one assist apiece.


In the state championship game, the Lady Texans will look to win the program’s first ever state championship when Wimberley will face off against the Canyon Randall Raiders.
The Raiders entered the state championship game with a 22-5-1 overall record and won the 4A District 3 championship with a 13-0-1 district record.
In the first two rounds of the playoffs, Randall dominated their opponents, beating Bridgeport 8-0 and San Elizario 3-1. Randall later defeated Fort Worth Benbrook before beating Godley to take home the 4A D2 Region I title.
In the state semifinals, Randall defeated Aubrey in a thrilling 1-0 game to claim their place in the final.
While the Raiders and the Lady Texans soccer teams are unfamiliar with each other, the schools are not despite being 482 miles apart. Wimberley defeated Randall in the state championship for volleyball this sports season.
Kickoff for the UIL 4A Division II state title game is set for 11 a.m. Thursday at Georgetown ISD Athletic Complex.
