The Hill Country Community Band will perform “Supercalifragilistic Sousa- Travaganza,” a concert of favorite movie themes, April 13, at 4 p.m. at the Wimberley First Baptist Church, 15951 Winters Mill Parkway.
The Band will be playing a medley of songs from “The Sound of Music” by Rodgers and Hammerstein, with wellknown melodies like “Do-Re-Mi,” “Climb Every Mountain,” “Edelweiss,” and “The Sound of Music.” Selections from “Mary Poppins,” by Richard and Robert Sherman, will include the famous “Spoonful of Sugar” and “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.”
“Watchman, Tell Us of the Night,” by Mark Camphouse, a beautiful musical tribute to the survivors of child abuse, is part of the program, along with “Adventures On Earth,” from the Universal picture “E.T. The Extraterrestrial.” The piece is crafted from the John Williams’ score, adapted for wind bands, by Paul Lavender. It captures the excitement of the iconic bicycle chase, the tearful goodbye, and the wonder of the spaceship’s ascent into the night sky.
A rousing march from John Philip Sousa, “Mother Hubbard March,” will complete the program. Known for their catchy melodies, driving rhythms, and patriotic themes, Sousa’s marches are a beloved part of American culture, and continue to be enjoyed by people of all ages.
The HCCB is directed by Dr. Manuel Arambula, and the concert will be family-friendly and free to all. Parents are encouraged to bring the entire family.
The nonprofit Hill Country Community Band is located in Wimberley. Rehearsals are held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Wimberley First Baptist Church on Tuesday evenings and new members are always welcome.
