The Texans kicked off district play with a two-game sweep of the rival Canyon Lake Hawks.

The pair of wins improved Wimberley’s record to 10-3-1 overall and 2-0 in district play.

On Tuesday, the Texans made the trip across the Devil’s Backbone and into Canyon Lake to start district place.

Canyon Lake struck first in the bottom of the second inning with a one-out solo home run, giving the Hawks an early 1-0.

After three scoreless innings, the Texans offense found the runs they needed in the top of the fourth.

With runners on first and second, Wimberley took advantage of a Canyon Lake fielding error as one run came across to tie the game at 1-1.

An intentional walk loaded the bases for the Texans, allowing Cody Stoever to come to the plate. Stoever hit into a fielder’s choice, scoring a run and reaching first base safely to give the Texans the lead at 2-1.

Following a strikeout, the Texans scored again on a Gentry Mc-Ginnis RBI single in the infield, pushing the lead to 3-1.

The three runs were all that was needed for the Texans who went on to win 3-1 over the Hawks. The pitching combination of Mc-Ginnis, Wyatt Yeatter and Ty Thames combined to allow just four hits, one earned run, four walks while striking out nine batters.

Friday the Texans returned home to face the Hawks as Wimberley looked to complete the sweep.

Again Canyon Lake struck first, hitting an RBI single in the top of the first inning to lead 1-0.

Wimberley answered back in the same inning.

After reaching first on a Canyon Lake fielding error, Yeatter crossed home plate on another Hawk fielding error, tying the game at 1-1.

Canyon Lake took the lead again, hitting a lead-off home run to go up 2-1 in the top of the third inning.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Texans once again had an answer. With runners on second and third, Wimberley took advantage of another Canyon Lake fielding, scoring two runs as the Texans went up 3-2 over the Hawks.

Later in the at-bat, Yeatter connected with an RBI double, pushing the lead to 4-2. Yeatter advanced to third on a passed ball before scoring on yet another Canyon Lake fielding error, making it a 5-2 lead.

The Texans added their sixth run of the game on a bases- loaded balk as Wimberley sealed the 6-2 win.

The pitching duo of Jackson Parker and Jayden Hall combined to allow six hits, two earned runs, five walks and striking out four batters.

The Texans will be back in district play this week taking on the Bandera Bulldogs. The first game will take place Tuesday night at Bandera before the second game, taking place Friday night at Wimberley. Both games will start at 7 p.m.
