The Texans captured a pair of thrilling wins this week, beating both Fredericksburg and Navarro to remain undefeated in district play.

The wins improve Wimberley’s overall record to 8-12 and their district record to 4-0.

On Tuesday, Wimberley faced off against the Fredericksburg Battlin’ Billies with the winner taking sole possession of first place.

The Billies struck first in the top of the first inning, hitting an RBI single and a sacrifice fly to lead the Texans 2-0.

Wimberley responded in the next-bat. Following a one-out triple from Bailey Wright, Ella Patek hit an RBI single to score Wright and cut the deficit down to 2-1. A groundout moved Patek to second before Reagan Kenley hit an RBI single, scoring Patek and tying the game at 2-2.

Wimberley took their first lead of the game in the bottom of the second inning. Facing runners on the corners, Emorie Gahan hit a deep sacrifice fly into left field to score a run and put the Texans up 3-2 over the Billies.

Fredericksburg later tied the game at 3-3 following an RBI double in the top of the fifth.

Going into the final at-bat of the game, the Texans faced two outs with the contest seemingly set for extra innings.

However, Gahan kept the at-bat alive with a single in right field. Fredericksburg opted to intentionally walk Wright to put runners on first and second with two outs.

But the tactic did work in favor of the Billies. On a 1-1 count, Patek hit a line drive single into left field as Gahan scored from second to win the game for the Texans at 4-3.

Grace Strobel earned the win in the circle, throwing a complete game while allowing six hits, two earned runs, one walk and striking out three batters.

Wimberley looked to keep their undefeated district streak alive on Friday, hosting the Navarro Panthers.

The Texans struck first in the bottom of the first. Facing runners at second and third with one out, Strobel hit a two-run RBI single, giving Wimberley a 2-0 lead.

Meadow Cryer later scored another Texan run in the bottom of the second, scoring on a passed ball to extend the lead 3-0.

After two-scoreless innings, the Panthers answered back. Navarro hit a two-run inside the park home run despite having two outs and making it a 3-2 game.

In the top of the fifth inning, the Panthers tied the game at 3-3 after a bases loaded walk with two outs before Strobel caught the line drive in the air to strand all three baserunners.

Wimberley broke the tiebreak in the bottom of the fifth. Loading the bases up, Julia Leonard into a fielder’s choice and reached first base safely while scoring another run to put the Texans up 4-3.

In the next-at, Leanna Therrien grounded out to second base but not before another run came across, extending the Wimberley lead to 5-3.

In the top of the seventh inning, the Panthers scored on a passed ball to make it a onerun game before pitcher Campbell Woodard struck out the last batter to seal the win at 5-4.

Woodard threw a complete game, allowing four hits, three earned runs, six walks and striking out 10 batters.

Wimberley will be back home Tuesday night against Davenport before going on the road to Canyon Lake to start the second round of district play.
