Texans fight hard in Lago Vista double header

Fresh off their bye week, the refreshed Texans closed out the week with a clean sweep beating Lago Vista then Thorndale in a double- header.

The wins improve the Texans record to 8-3-1 overall.

Wimberley started off the week on the road against the Lago Vista Vikings.

After the first two innings, the Vikings took a 3-0 lead over the Texans. In the top of the fourth inning, Wimberley made their comeback. Sage Hall jumped started the offense with a lead home run, cutting the lead down to 3-1. Later in the at-bat, the Texans had runners on second and third with one out after a Lago Vista fielding error and a hit by pitch. Jake Dewell laid down the sacrifice bunt to score another run for the Texans, making it a one-score game at 3-2.

In the top of the sixth inning, Wimberley took the lead. Facing two outs with the bases loaded, Bryson Anderson hit a two-run RBI double, giving the Texans the lead at 4-3.

Pitcher Ty Thames then sat down the next six batters for the Texans to take home the win.

On Friday, the Texans played their first home games of the season in a double-header against the Thorndale Bulldogs.

In the first game, the Texans struck first with an RBI single from Jayden Hall to go up 1-0 over the Bulldogs. Later in the at-bat, Sage Hall hit an RBI single in right field to score another run and go up 2-0.

The Texans added on to their lead in the bottom of the second inning as Dewell hit into a fielder’s choice to score another run.

In the bottom of the third inning, Sage Hall connected with a tworun home run into left field, adding on to the lead 5-0. Sage Hall later hit an RBI triple in the bottom of the fifth inning, extending the lead to 6-0 and later the win.

The pitching duo of Jackson Parker and Wyatt Yeater combined to throw a shutout. Parker finished the game throwing six innings, allowing just one hit, no earned runs, two walks and striking out two batters. Yeater closed out the game in the top of the seventh inning.

In the second game, Thorndale scored their first run of the game in the top of the third inning on a fielder’s choice.

The Texans answered back with a Jayden Hall RBI triple, tying the game at 1-1. In the same at-bat, Wimberley took the lead on a Yeater RBI double, going up 2-1. Sage Hall followed up Yeater with an RBI single, pushing the lead 3-1.

Anderson added on to the lead in the bottom of the fourth, hitting an RBI single. Thames then hit a tworun RBI single, pushing the lead to 6-1.

Thorndale cut the lead down to 6-2 before Anderson hit another RBI single to make it a 7-2 game going into the sixth inning.

The Bulldogs responded by scoring five unanswered runs in the final two innings, sending the game into extras.

After being scoreless in the eighth, ninth and 10th innings, both teams found their extra wind in the 11th.

Thorndale took advantage of a Wimberley fielding error and scored to go into the bottom of the 11th up 8-7.

Undeterred, the Texans made their comeback. Loading up the bases with one out, Thames earned the RBI the hard way after getting hit by the pitch, tying the game at 8-8. After the Bulldogs got the second out on the fielder’s choice by throwing to home plate, Sage Hall sents the Texan faithful home happy with a walk-off RBI single to take the win at 9-8.

The Texans start district play this week with a two-game series against the archrival Canyon Lake Hawks. The Hawks are 13-4 for the season.

The first game of the two game series will take place Tuesday at home before the second game taking place at Canyon Lake. Both games are set to start at 7 p.m.
