Bringing science out of the classroom

Biologists, naturalists and local breweries have teamed up to present science fun for adults and families, April 4 through 6. Called Seasons of Science, April’s program focuses on central Texas pollinators.

“Seasons of Science breaks down the barriers between scientific education and community engagement,” said Jill Zipperer, outreach liaison. “We’re bringing science out of the classroom and into spaces where people naturally gather, making learning both fun and approachable.”

The event aims to make science enjoyable for adults while creating a welcoming environment for families to explore the world of pollinators through entertaining activities.

Texas State University’s Department of Biology and the Hays County Master Naturalists will transform local breweries into interactive science spaces where visitors can explore the role of pollinators in Central Texas ecosystems, play a hands-on pollination game, decorate an eco-friendly flower pot or join a guided nature exploration with a Research Rangers Guide while enjoying a relaxing day outside at a local small business. Admission is free.

Participating breweries include: Jester King Brewery, The Shady Llama and Roughhouse Brewing.

On April 4, Jester King Brewery, 13187 Fitzhugh Rd, Austin, will hold their program from 2 to 6 p.m.; on April 5, The Shady Llama, 18325 Ranch Rd 12, Wimberley, will hold theirs from 1 to 5 p.m.; and on April 6, Roughhouse Brewing, 680 Oakwood Loop, San Marcos, will also hold theirs from 1 to 5 p.m.
