A call came into the Hays County Office of Emergency Management shortly before 2 p.m. last Wednesday and Wimberley Fire and Rescue was called to an area near Longhorn Trail and Mt. Sharp.
According to Assistant Fire Chief Christopher Robbins, “Four acres were involved and no structures were ever threatened. Wimberley firefighters worked the blaze for 30 hours.”
“We brought in supplemental staffing,” he said, “to operate additional brush trucks which were used to support both the Longhorn fire and the Onion Creek fire.”
Robbins praised the actions of firefighters. “All the responding crews did a great job of confining it to the area of involvement. Given the wind conditions, it had the potential to be a much larger fire.”
While it is still under investigation, Robbins thinks the fire was unintentional. “It was possibly a spark from heavy equipment used in clearing land in the area,” he said.
