CEU course offered for oncology massage therapists

Emerald Bodywork Education is bringing their continuing education course, “Cancer’s Journey,” to Wimberley, March 23 through 25.

The class, usually offered in big cities, is open to Licensed Massage Therapists and is an NCBTMB and a Society for Oncology Massage, or S4OM, approved course. Prior to S4OM approval, Texas Licensed Massage Therapists needed to travel out of state for similar training, which did not meet continuing education requirements for Texas unless the instructor had also obtained a Texas Massage Instructor license.

Massage Therapist and instructor Amy Scottino will teach the class. “We will navigate through various topics to enhance your ability to meet the unique demands of this special population. Some topics we will discuss are understanding cancer, treatments used for various cancer types, the emotional and physical demands, some massage considerations, intake and interview, and to follow up with clients better, and massaging clients with Lymphedema risks.”

Registration is at emeraldbodyworkeducation. com under the training schedule tab. Lodging is also available on site, for an additional fee, for those traveling to Wimberley or for those who wish to experience the class as an oncology massage retreat.

The class will take place at Wimberley Log Cabins Resort and Suites, 712 FM2325, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. CEU credits are 24.
