Both the Texan baseball and softball teams continued their pushes in the late stage of the non-district schedule.
The Texans baseball team played their final regular season tournament of the season at the Burnet Tournament.
Wimberley opened tournament play Thursday against the Llano Yellowjackets. It was a dominating win for the Texans, defeating the Yellowjackets 16-0.
The Texans return to play Friday against the host Burnet Bulldogs. Wimberley took their first loss of the tournament, falling to the Bulldogs 6-2.
On Saturday, Wimberley looked to close out the tournament strong against the Maypearl Panthers and the Glen Rose Tigers.
Against Maypearl, the Texans fell to the Panthers 8-1. But despite the loss, Wimberley rebounded and defeated Glen Rose 9-2 to finish the tournament with a 2-2 record.
The Texans will play their first home games of the regular season this week, hosting the Lago Vista Vikings Wednesday before playing a double-header Friday against Thorndale.
Texans softball played their first home game of the season last weekend, playing Cornerstone Christian. Wimberley was unable to secure the home win, falling to Cornerstone 3-0.
Looking to find their way in the win, the Texans battled old nemesis Blanco on the road last Friday.
The Texans took the early lead at 1-0 in the top of the first inning when Grace Strobel hit an RBI single. In the next at-bat, Strobel scored on a Blanco error to extend the lead 2-0.
In the top of the third inning, the Texans extended the lead to 3-0 when Strobel hit another RBI single.
Reagan Kenley brought home Strobel on an RBI double to make it a 4-0 game.
Blanco added two runs in the bottom of third before tying the game in the bottom of the fourth inning, hitting a two-run RBI triple.
Heading into the final inning, the Texans looked to bring home the win. Bailey Wright started the inning with a bang, hitting leadoff home run and put the Texans up 5-4.
With runners on first and second, Campbell Woodard hit a RBI single as the lead was pushed to 6-4. Wimberley added another run on a Blanco error, allowing the Texans to enter the bottom of the seventh up 7-4.
But the game wasn’t in favor of the Texans.
