With the season winding down, both the Lady Texans and the Texans are looking to close out their respective seasons out strong.
The Lady Texans continued their quest for not only a playoff spot of a district title as well, taking on the Davernport Wolves and the Canyon Lake Hawks.
Facing the Wolves on Tuesday, the Lady Texans delivered the shutout, beating Davenport 3-0. Junior Lilli Sandoval and sophomore Dylan Watson both scored goals for Wimberley while senior Haley Lopez and freshman Abby Durkin both earned the assists. The third goal for the Lady Texans came off an own goal by Davenport.
Going on the road to Canyon Lake, Wimberley faced off with the rival Hawks.
Canyon Lake went up 1-0 on the Hawks as the Lady Texans trailed going into the second half. Wimberley found the equalizer when Sandoval found the back of the net off the assist of Watson, tying the game at 1-1.
Though the Lady Texans didn’t come away with the win, Wimberley didn’t lose to their first Texas High School opponent of the season as the game ended 1-1.
With their win and tie for the week, Wimberley still sits in first place in the District 26 standings ahead of Davenport.
The Lady Texans will have a chance to clinch the district title this week, playing Bandera at home in the final home game of the season Tuesday before playing on the road against Fredericksburg.
The Texans continue their push towards clinching a playoff berth, taking on Davenport and rival Canyon Lake.
Wimberley fell on the road to Davenport, losing 3-1 to the Wolves. Sophomore Bo Holeman scored the lone goal for the Texans.
Returning home, the Texans battled the rival Hawks. Both Wimberley and Canyon Lake played to a 2-2 draw. Raul Canil scored the first goal for the Texans off the assist from Pharrel Miri. Sophomore Hunter Hodgeson scored the second goal for the Texans off the assist from Kaden Geron.
Wimberley currently sits in fifth place in the district standings but are one game behind Bandera for the final playoff spot.
The Texans will play Bandera Tuesday night on the road before hosting Fredericksburg on Friday.
