The Annual Pie Social, a Spring tradition since 1990, returns April 26 to the grounds of the Wimberley Valley Museum. The family- friendly event, held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., features a variety of homemade pies to sample, an exuberant pie eating contest and a homemade pie competition. Hot dogs, live music, therapy ponies from Mini Equine 2U, and the amazing trained service dogs from Freedom Canines International are part of the fun.
Pie enthusiasts are encouraged to showcase their baking skills in the pie competition. Pies in five categories will be judged: fruit, cream, nut, specialty and kid’s pies. Judging takes place the morning of the event and during the awards ceremony, ribbons will be awarded to first, second and third-place winners in each category. The Grand Prize for Best Pie will receive a special award, and all winning pies will be auctioned to the public.
For bakers, pie entry forms are available at WimWic.org and the Visitors Center, 14100 RR12. Contestants must submit their pies for judging at the Community Center, 14068 RR 12, between 8:30 and 9:30 a.m. on the day of the event.
Admission to the social is free, with proceeds from pie and hot dog sales benefiting the Wimberley Valley Museum.
The Wimberley Institute of Cultures, which governs the museum, is one of WIC’s primary fundraising events, alongside the annual Harvest Moon Dance in the fall. Funds raised support museum operations, educational programs, and scholarships awarded to Wimberley area high school seniors each May.
