Baseball sweeps the Billies

Avenging their loss to Fredericksburg last year, the Texan baseball team came back this year to sweep the two game series with the Billies to put themselves ahead of the district standings.

Wimberley took the first game in Fredericksburg in a 11-6 win before taking game two in an emphatic 6-1 win over

Billies at home in Wimberley.

The two wins put Wimberley in first place as Boerne split the series against Canyon Lake and forced a tie for first place between the Texans and the Greyhounds.

“I love the way they (Wimberley) brush things off,” Wisdom said. “They are like teenagers and other players I’ve had in the past, but then they get on them selves and (the errors) are gone. The one pitch Riojas gives up, look at what the offense does. It’s like, ‘Hey you get one and we get five.’ So I love the way they are playing, and how they are playing with each other. It’s hard to say one guy carried us through a game, because every game it seems to be a team effort.”

In Friday’s home game, Wimberley and Fredericksburg were involved in a tight pitcher’s duel through the first three innings.

The only run coming in those three innings came courtesy of the Texans who scored in the bottom of the second inning.

After a scoreless third inning, the Billies tied the game up with a solo home run in the fourth inning at 1-1.

But the tie game didn’t last long as the Texans answered back in the bottom of the fourth inning.

A two-run inning by the Texans put Wimberley back on top at 3-1.

After holding the Billies off the scoreboard, Wimberley then added three more runs to their total as the Texans now lead 6-1.

Fredericksburg failed to score again in both the sixth and seventh innings as Wimberley took the 6-1 win.

Next up for the Texans is the district series against Davenport.

Wimberley will host the Wolves on Tuesday before traveling to Davenport High School Friday night with both first pitches at 7 p.m.
