Hearts are meant to flutter on February 14 when the U.S. observes the day that celebrates love and romance. Last week during a Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting at Wimberley Donuts to celebrate its 20-year anniversary, owner Maggie Carpenter got the surprise of her life when Bill Pagel kneeled down and proposed marriage.
“I had no idea that Bill was going to propose to me during the ceremony. I was just blown away. It was so romantic,” said Carpenter.
According to Maggie, the couple have enjoyed a committed relationship for the past year and a half and work side by side everyday at Wimberley Donuts.
Pagel presented Maggie with an engagement ring, which she accepted, and they sealed their future together with a kiss.
The unexpected proposal not only surprised the new fiancee, it left the chamber’s Executive Director, Becca Hancock, and Chamber Ambassadors who attended the event, awestruck.
“I was completely surprised, and I have to say that this has to be a first for a ribbon cutting,” said Hancock.
