Texans and Lady Texans nab critical district wins

Both the Texans and the Lady Texans were back on the hardwood this week as district play heats up and the chase to the postseason continues.

Following their overtime loss to Canyon Lake, the Texans bounced back and won both of their district games against Bandera and Fredericksburg.

The two district wins improves Wimberley’s overall record to 18-8 and their district record to 2-1.

The Texans started the week on the road against the Bandera Bulldogs. Wimberley defeated Bandera in a thrilling game 81-70 which saw the Texans score 33 points in the fourth quarter.

Junior Paul Gumbert- Mendoza led the team in scoring with a team high 31 points followed by senior Gavin Olmer with 16 points. Sophomore Reece Wortham was third with 14 points.

Following their win, the Texans returned home where they faced the rival Fredericksburg Battlin’ Billies.

Wimberley defeated Fredericksburg 70-51 for the Texans second district win.

Gumbert-Mendoza led the team in scoring with 25 points followed by senior Bryson Anderson and junior Holden Crawford with 10 points each.

The Lady Texans split their district games this week, beating Bandera and losing to Fredericksburg. Wimberley’s record goes to 20-7 overall and 2-3 in district play.

Wimberley started off the week at home Tuesday against the Bandera Bulldogs. The Lady Texans captured the win, beating the Bulldogs 57-45.

The Lady Texans close out the week against the No. 6 ranked Fredericksburg Battlin’ Billies on the road.

Wimberley was unable to pull off the upset, dropping their game to the Battlin’ Billies 73-39.

Through the first round of district play, the Lady Texans sit firmly in fourth place in 4A District 26.

Due to the incoming weather, Wimberley’s Tuesday district games against Navarro have moved with the date to be determined depending on the weather conditions.
