Lady Texans win first district game
The Lady Texans finally captured that elusive district win last Friday, beating the Canyon Lake Hawks 53-31 in the Battle of the Backbone.
The win improves Wimberley’s overall record to 19-6 overall and their district record to 1-2.
The win follows a tough loss for Wimberley last Tuesday when the Lady Texans fell to Davenport 60-42 at home.
Wimberley will be back home Tuesday night against the Bandera Bulldogs before going back on the road Friday against Fredericksburg.
Texans drop district opener in overtime thriller
Wimberley lost their district opening game last Friday, falling to archrival Canyon Lake 63-56 in overtime.
The Texans trailed 23-12 at the end of the first quarter before making their comeback in the second. Going into halftime, Wimberley trailed 33-32.
Wimberley took the lead in the third quarter and entered the fourth up 47-40. The Hawks made their comeback before the game was sent into overtime tied at 52-52.
Canyon Lake outscored Wimberley 11-4 during the period to seal the win for the Hawks at 63-56.
Paul Gumbert-Mendoza led the team in scoring with 31 points followed by Bryson Anderson with nine points. Gumbert-Mendoza also led the team in rebounds with seven.
Wimberley will look to get back in the win column Tuesday on the road against Bandera before hosting Fredericksburg on Friday.
