Woodcreek enjoys new parks

The city of Woodcreek nears completion of three new parks. Thanks to a grant from Hays County Parks and Open Spaces initiative, the Woodcreek city council, Woodcreek city administration, Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee and committed volunteers, we will have new and revitalized parks for the community to enjoy.

Come and take a look! As you enter Woodcreek Drive proceed to the intersection with Brookhollow Dr. There you will find Triangle Park with a new gazebo, benches and a water fountain (donated and installed by Aqua Texas). Turn right on Brookhollow and you’ll soon come to Creekside Park. This children’s playground has a playscape for ages up to 12 and tables and benches where families can picnic and parents can relax.

I would like to highlight Augusta Park situated at 90 Augusta Drive. This lovely park space was initially developed with grants from PEC and LCRA about 10 years ago. The original installation included two stone picnic tables with benches, a bocce ball court and a rain garden located in a low spot where water collects during rain events. Recent improvements include a ping pong table, corn hole game and a nature trail highlighting native plants. A low rock wall that mirrors the bocce court helps define the rain garden space.

We are especially proud of our joint projects with local scouts. A Monarch Way Station, nearing completion, was designed and installed by Tatum Davis for her Gold Award. The plants in this garden will provide migrating monarch butterflies nectar plants for strength for their journey and larval host plants to lay eggs. For his Eagle Scout project Billy Brown constructed a rainwater collection tank to help with water for the gardens. The 500-gallon tank collects water from a metal roof, and an overflow tank provides water for wildlife. We thank King Feed and McCoys for their contributions to this project. Augusta Park will be a spot for family play and a haven for wildlife.

We are grateful to everyone who had a part in making our new parks possible!
