Organized people

Sometimes I wonder what organized people do with their time? I would like to learn a few tips. Enquiring minds want to know.

I talked to a few people who are semi-organized and they gave me some ideas on how these people fill up their days.

One said that they take up hobbies. OK, I have done that, but my hobbies take up a lot of room that I don’t have. I read books that don’t always fit in — or make it to — a book shelf.

I started collecting typewriters and no longer have room for any one to eat at the dining room table. I need more ideas.

One friend says that when she purchases clothes, she donates the same number of clothes she bought. So, if she bought three items of clothing, she discards that same number. I have tried that, but can’t seem to decide what I don’t need anymore. I hate to get rid of some clothes I like that are the wrong size — basically too small. If I donate them, that tells me that I don’t think I will ever get to that size again. I probably won’t but I don’t want to believe it.

Another person said that if they haven’t used something in six months, it is sold or donated. I don’t think I can do that, even if I use six years as my cutoff point. I actually like finding things I didn’t even remember I had.

Maybe if I save my iPod a little longer, it will be worth something. It is always nice to add money to my retirement fund. I often tell my daughter that my stuff is not junk, it is your inheritance. I am sure she has a house clean-up team on speed dial for when I am gone. I suppose I should dispose of old letters, cards and magazines, but I might want to look at them again. Usually I don’t. Maybe I should use the six year cut-off for those items.

I need more tips from organized people.
