Both the Texans and Lady Texans played in the finals of the Wimberley Hoopfest Tournament with the Lady Texans taking home the championship trophy and the Texans finishing as a runner up.
In pool play, the Lady Texans were placed with Austin LASA, Vanderbilt Industrial and Sunbury.
Wimberley started off the tournament against the Austin LASA Raptors. In a dominating victory, the Lady Texans rolled over the Raptors 64-20 to win the tournament opener.
The Lady Texans then shifted their focus towards the Sunbury Jets. Continuing their momentum, Wimberley rolled over the Jets 87-39.
Looking to clinch a spot in the championship final, the Lady Texans faced the Industrial Cobras. Wimberley once again didn’t slow down and defeated Industrial 82-22 to clinch a spot in the championship final.
In the final, Wimberley faced the Bridge City Cardinals. In a tough battle, the Lady Texans put away the Cardinals to capture the Hoopfest Tournament Championship 72-63.
The Lady Texans continued their march through non-district play, facing the rival Blanco Panthers on New Year’s Eve.
Wimberley notched another victory, defeating Blanco 55-35.
The Lady Texans opened up district play on the road against the rival Navarro Panthers to start the New Year.
Wimberley was unable to extend their winning streak, losing to the Panthers 44-31.
The Lady Texans return home Tuesday against Davenport before going on the road to Canyon Lake on Friday.
In the boys tournament for Wimberley Hoopfest, the Texans were placed in a pool with Lockhart, Vanguard Academy and Medina Valley.
The tournament opener saw the Texans take the Lockhart Lions. In a close game, the Texans put away the Lions in a 75-69 win to start pool play.
Wimberley then shifted their focus to Vanguard Academy. The Texans regrouped before putting together a dominant performance, beating Vanguard 80-36.
With a championship spot on the line, Wimberley then faced the Medina Valley Panthers. In a thrilling game, the Texans edged out the Panthers 63-62 to advance to the championship final.
In the final, the Texans met the Belton Tigers. In another thrilling game, Texans fell to the Belton Tigers 6656, taking second place.
Starting off the New Year, Wimberley was back home and facing the Giddings Buffaloes in non-district action. The Texans put themselves back in the win column, beating the Buffaloes 73-38.
Closing out non-district play, Wimberley faced off with Belton once again in a rematch. The Tigers were able to get the Texans’ number as Wimberley lost 83-76.
The Texans start district play on Friday when Wimberley hosts their archrival, the Canyon Lake Hawks.
