Is It Just Me?

Once upon a time there was a little boy who heard about the birth of a baby in a manger. He was a kind-hearted boy and wanted to get a gift for the baby. He thought and thought about what he might be able to give. He had to find something extra special that no one else would think of, and it had to be inexpensive.
He talked to his mother about what he could take. They didn’t have much themselves. Food was scarce and it wasn’t the growing season. His mother told him that if he sat outside where it was peaceful, he may come up with an idea.
After an hour of serious contemplation, he thought of the perfect gift that would be special and would not cost anything. He ran to his mother and said he has the perfect gift idea. She smiled lovingly at him and asked what it was. He said that everyone likes music and he did have a drum. He could play the drum for the mother and newborn baby. He could be the little drummer boy! The mom put her arm around her son and explained that a mother who had just given birth may not want to hear drumming. It also might make the baby frightened. She said, I remember when I had you, I just wanted a quiet place to rest and cuddle you. I didn’t mind visitors, but they were all soft spoken when they saw you. They would smile and ohh and ahhh, but no one was loud. I might have heard some quiet music outside of our tent, but it was soothing. Can you think of a song you might sing to the newborn child?
The little boy thought and thought. He said he could think of some songs but didn’t know all of the words to them. His mother said, I will bet the baby and his mother would still love it if you hummed the tune. Thus, there was almost a revised Christmas Carol - The Little Hummer Boy.
