The Wimberley girls’ soccer team finished the season with a 4-1 loss to Calallen in the UIL Region IV Semifinals. This was the second year in a row that Calallen knocked Wimberley out of the playoffs at the regional tournament.

Wimberley went down 3-0 at halftime before Izzy Franchione scored a goal in the second half on penalty kicks. It was the first goal any team had scored on Calallen in their previous 17 games.

“We had a spell there where we tried to push it after the PK to try and get that second goal, and we couldn’t quite get it,” Soccer Coach Brinton Nute said.

Calallen would score the final goal with four minutes left in the game to seal the victory.

“Although it was disappointing to lose in the manner we did, we did so many great things this year,” Nute said. “The euphoria of the Davenport game in the quarter final, winning district for the first time ever. I feel the program has made a step in the right direction, and we have a foundation to build on for next season.”

There are seven seniors on the team that will be graduating in Makenzie Haston, Loralei Clapper, Lexi Howell, Leah Tate, Mystel Bernal, Yaretzy Ramos and Elise Brown. Team manager Haley Hall is also graduating.

Calallen lost in the regional finals to Boerne, who Wimberley beat out in order to win the district championship.
