CBB receives challenge grant

In September, the Crisis Bread Basket received a challenge grant from the Carl C. Anderson Sr. and Marie Jo Anderson Charitable Foundation. The foundation will match up to $10,000 if Wimberley’s Crisis Bread Basket can raise that sum within a year.

The Wimberley Crisis Bread Basket nonprofit was created in 1986 to serve economically disadvantaged individuals and households in the Wimberley area impacted by food insecurity. The organization has operated continuously since 1986 to provide weekly distributions of nutritious food. They have no paid staff and receive no government funding.

Christine Walker, a member of CBB’s Board of Directors who serves as their Community Outreach Liaison, said in a recent email exchange that, according to their charter, the nonprofit is solely funded by donations and grants.

“Our community is so generous. If area residents would like to make a donation and help us reach our goal, they may donate through our website, wimberleybreadbasket. org, or by sending a check to Crisis Bread Basket, P.O. Box 1721, Wimberley, TX 78676. Donations for year-end tax credits are also welcomed and encouraged,” she wrote.

All monies raised go to help those in need through weekly food distributions, to support food assistance associated with other Wimberley community partner programs, and to defray ongoing modest operating expenses.

In October, Christine acknowledged that the matching grant would go a long way towards helping neighbors in need.

Crisis Bread Basket is located at 14092 RR 12. Food distribution is on Tuesdays, 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. and Thursdays from 2:30 to 3:45 p.m. To receive food, recipients are required to live in the Wimberley area or have children enrolled in the Wimberley Independent School District and to complete a short registration form. Consult their website, wimberleybreadbasket. org, for additional information about donating and volunteering.
