The Wimberley Lady Texans basketball team took home 4th place at the Wimberley Hoopfest Tournament finishing with three wins and two losses.

The Lady Texans improved their record to 15-8 overall.

For Head Coach Caleb Hall, this was a much needed stretch following the holiday break as Wimberley goes into district play this week.

“I thought we had the games we needed to have coming back from a long break,” Hall said. “That was one of the hopes of this tournament is that we play a lot of games back-to-back and get back into the groove with district play next week. It was good to play up and down the floor against some really good teams.”

The Lady Texans were placed in Pool 1 in Hoopfest where they paired with Marion Lady Bulldogs and Garland Rowlett Lady Eagles.

In Wimberley’s first game of the tournament, the Lady Texans took on Rowlett.

It was a tough battle, but the Lady Texans fought through for the 56-44 win.

Three Lady Texan players were in double figures in scoring with sophomore Raygan Pack leading the team in scoring with 14. Lily Dela Rosa was second in scoring with 12 points followed by Brooke Burcham with 10.

Mackenzie Haston led the team in rebounds with 14.

In the second game of the tournament, the Lady Texans regrouped to battle Marion for a chance to win Pool 1.

It was a romp for Wimberley as they scored a season high 83 points en route to an 83-45 win over the Lady Bulldogs and took Pool 1.

A whopping five Lady Texan players were in double figures in scoring with Burcham leading the way with 21 points. Following a bye in the Championship Elimination tournament, the Lady Texans took on St. Michaels.

It was another hard fought win as Wimberley took home the 56-42 win over the Crusaders.

Haston led the team in scoring 12 points followed by Woodard with 11.

That Thursday, the Lady Texans found themselves tangling with the Mason Cowgirls in the semifinals.

It was a hard fought defensive battle and although Wimberley held in tough against Mason, it wasn’t enough as the Cowgirls went on to win 36-29 and eventually win the Girls Hoopsfest Championship.

In the third place game, the Lady Texans fell to Concordia Lutheran 63-48.
