The Wimberley Merchants Alliance in collaboration with the Chamber of Commerce and the City of Wimberley’s new director of tourism, Michelle Woods, has embarked on a bold plan to bring visitors to town for the holidays.
Christened “Hometown Holidays,” the program of events is “a recalibration of Winters Eve and similar events,” said Helena Hauk, President of the Merchant’s Alliance.
The program seeks to establish Wimberley as a tourist destination for the holiday season to boost small businesses in the area.
A press release went out earlier this month to some 200 million outlets that opened with “Wimberley, Named Best Christmas Town. . .” and ended with “Experience the magic of the holidays in Wimberley — a real-life Hallmark movie in the making.”
It detailed a November 30 parade with lighted floats, a progressive downtown tree lighting, a Santa Claus appearance on the Square, and a toy drive for the Barnabas Connection.
Hometown Holiday events began as early as November 13 with a “Sip and Shop” evening and will stretch through December with a full slate of activities. It seems there’s something planned for everyone — pancake breakfasts with Santa, markets, bazaars and a hullabaloo, a fun run, a Santa Pub Crawl, a holiday auction and other activities.
