Is It Just Me?
I recently had to make a decision on which kitchen appliance I should repair or replace. They seem to be wanting to move on to a happier place than my kitchen. Now, if it was the refrigerator that was broken, there would be no question. It would need to work.
My coffeemaker is another important appliance. My dogs like me best after a little caffeine. If my coffeemaker broke, and my dogs got an allowance, I know they would happily give it to me to purchase a new coffeemaker, quickly.
Last year, I dropped a watermelon on my oven dial so I could no longer turn on my oven. I know it sounds like a freak accident, but I guess I was lucky that the dial was strong enough to handle previous accidents. I did look for a replacement dial, but could not find one. Surely other people have had broken oven dials? That’s what I get for trying to eat healthy.
I have been able to do without an oven by using my toaster oven and microwave. I was able to cook (or heat, pre-cooked) food for Thanksgiving. My family was fine with that because they know that I am cooking-challenged.
But, a few weeks ago, a very important appliance broke. My dishwasher. Now, I often hand wash dishes, but I also pile up dishes in the sink that I transfer to the dishwasher. I have a limit on the number of dishes I will hand-wash at one time, and somehow I keep going over that limit.
I eat more than I cook, so therefore I have more dirty dishes than a need for an oven. I know some very good cooks who actually enjoy preparing food and could not imagine not having an oven. I am not one of them.
Give me a refrigerator, a toaster oven, a microwave, a coffeemaker and a working dishwasher, and my kitchen is complete. My kitchen sink is getting full, so it’s time to find a sale on dishwashers.
