The Texans are moving on to the next round of the playoffs after defeating the Rockport- Fulton Pirates 6221.
It is the ninth time in the last ten years that Wimberley has advanced to the third round of the playoffs.
Wimberley struck first in their showdown with Rockport-Fulton as quarterback Cody Stoever hit wide receiver Bryson Anderson for a 50-yard touchdown to put the Texans up 7-0 following an extra point kick from Bo Holman.
The Texans later scored again in the first quarter, driving to inside the 10-yard line before Stoever rumbled his way in for a oneyard rushing touchdown. After a missed extra point, the Texans led 13-0.
In the second quarter, the Texans continued to dominate the Pirates. Stoever struck again, rushing for a sixyard touchdown and extending the lead to 20-0.
Later in the quarter, Wimberley tacked on another touchdown when running back Josh Belanger bulldozed his way into the endzone on a 10-yard run, pushing the lead to 27-0.
The Texans added their last touchdown of the second quarter when Stoever connected with wide receiver Nolan Waida for another 50-yard touchdown pass, extending the lead to 34-0.
The Pirates finally got their answer late in the second quarter with a rushing touchdown but Wimberley entered halftime with a commanding 34-7 lead.
Rockport-Fulton started the third quarter with another rushing touchdown as the lead was cut down to 34-14.
However, Wimberley had a response. On their next drive, Texans drove down to inside the Pirates’ 10-yard line before Stoever and Waide connected again for a five-yard touchdown pass, making it a 41-14 game.
The Pirates answered back with another touchdown drive only for the Texans to have a response back. Stoever added his third rushing touchdown of the night, scoring on a 10yard run and extending the lead to 48-21.
The Code Red Defense forced a fumble on the Pirates next drive in the fourth quarter before Wimberley added another score. Running back Benji Olmedo punched it in from five yards out, making it a 55-21 game.
Olmedo added the final touchdown in the game,scoring on a 10yard run and making the final score 62-21.
Stoever finished the game passing for 226 yards and three touchdowns while rushing for 197 yards on 20 carries and three touchdowns.
Through the air, Waida led the team in receiving with four catches for 119 yards and two touchdowns followed by Anderson with two catches for 54 yards. Wide receiver Jace Morales was third with three catches for 53 yards.
In the ground game, Olmedo was second in rushing with seven carries for 84 yards and two touchdowns followed by Belanger with six carries for 32 yards.
On defense, Maverick Jacobs had two interceptions and one fumble recovery.
The Texans will meet a familiar foe in the regional semifinals when Wimberley clashes with the Cuero Gobblers.
This will be the 17th all-time meeting between the Texans and the Gobblers as well as the 9th playoff meeting. Cuero leads the series 9-7.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Friday at UFCU Stadium in San Marcos.
