Home for the Holidays featuring Marcia Ball, Shelley King & Carolyn Wonderland December 3

The final performance of the Stars Over Wimberley concert series presented by WimberleyArts. org, is December 3 with “Home for the Holidays.” Featuring Texas music legends Marcia Ball, Shelley King and Carolyn Wonderland, the performance kicks off at The Wimberley Players theatre at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available at StarsOverWimberley.org.

Marcia Ball’s music is a perfect amalgamation of her roots and her talents. According to USA Today, she is “a sensation, a saucy singer and superb pianist. . . where Texas stomp-rock and Louisiana blues-swamp meet.” Born in Texas but raised in Louisiana, Ball started playing piano at the age of five. She was influenced by New Orleans style piano players like Fats Domino and Professor Longhair. Her vocal inspiration was Irma Thomas. She has entertained fans for fifty years now with her heartfelt vocals and leg swinging piano playing. She has also won many awards in her long career and was named the Texas State Musician of the Year in 2018. Her live performances are a party and the swampy, bluesy music mix will surely leave you hungry for more.

Shelley King blends folk, rock, blues, and country music and delivers it with a powerful, soulful voice. She was appointed by the Texas Legislature to represent the state as its Official Texas State Artist. She has played with a who’s who of Texas artists including Delbert McClinton, Cindy Cashdollar, and Carolyn Wonderland. She has also toured nationally and internationally with artists like Marcia Ball and the Subdudes. King is a well-received songwriter as well. In her spare time, she produces and is the owner of her own label and publishing company.

Carolyn Wonderland counts Bob Dylan among her fans. She established herself as a blues singer in Houston, landing gigs at Fitzgerald’s when she was only 15. As a young artist, she soaked up all that the blues scene had to offer in Houston and Austin in the ‘80s and ‘90s. This included learning to play a multitude of instruments, but despite these accomplishments, her ability to whistle is what always gets attention. Carolyn recently joined John Mayall’s Band as his guitarist. Known for her incredible vocals and excellent guitar work, she is a blues legend in the making.

The Wimberley Players lobby bar opens at 6:30 p.m. The theatre is located at 550 Old Kyle Rd. in Wimberley.
