Wimberley is heading back to the State Tournament after capturing the Region IV title this weekend.
This is the Texans 11th State Tournament appearance in program history and the first time Wimberley has qualified for the State Tournament since the 2020 season.
In the regional semifinals, the Texans faced the Sinton Pirates. It was a complete sweep for Wimberley who defeated Sinton 3-0 [2515, 25-17, 25-18].
Senior Laney Hennessee led the team in kills with 15, followed by Junior Addison Parks with nine. Junior Mariah McCoy was third with seven.
Junior Skylar Herring led the team in assists with 19, followed by Junior Carson Peoples with 18. Both Hennessee and Herring led the team in aces with three apiece.
On defense, Hennessee led the team in digs with nine, while senior Rhagen Masur came in second with six. Senior Addie Laney and Herring were tied for third in kills with five.
In the regional final, Wimberley met a familiar foe in district rival, the Navarro Panthers. The Panthers defeated the Sweeny Bulldogs in the other Region IV semifinal game to advance in the regional tournament.
The Texans dominated the Panthers again to capture the Region IV championship 3-0 [25-16, 26-24, 25-24].
Hennessee led the team in kills with 19, followed by Parks with 10. Peoples led the team in assists with 15, with Herring coming second with 13.
Masur led the team in digs with 12 followed by Herring and Laney with 10 apiece. Sophomore Skylar Mears led the team in blocks with three with Hennessee and McCoy having two blocks apiece.
In the opening round of the state tournament, the Texans will meet the Salado Eagles with the winner playing the victor of the Canyon Randall-Aubrey state semifinal game for the 4A Division II State Championship this Friday.
Salado enters the showdown with a 40-7 record and is the No. 3 ranked team in 4A Division II.
