Wimberley captured their sixth straight Bi-District Championship as the Texans defeated the Pearsall Mavericks 69-0. With the win, Wimberley improved their record to 9-2 for the season and advanced to the Area Round of the playoffs.
The Texans opened the playoffs with a bang. Receiving the opening kickoff, wide receiver Jace Cutrona returned the ball 69-yards for the touchdown as Bo Holman added the extra point to make it a 7-0 game.
A stop by the Code Red Defense allowed the Texans to get the ball and the offense to get their first touch on the ball.
The first Texan offensive drive ended with seven points when running back Maverick Jacobs scored on a 43-yard touchdown to make it a 14-0 game.
The Code Red Defense came up with their first turnover of the game. Linebacker Reid Wood came down with the interception for the Texans, allowing the offense to take over.
The interception turned into six points when quarterback Cody Stoever found wide receiver Jace Morales on the 17-yard touchdown pass, extending the lead.
Going into the second quarter, Wimberley held a massive 21-0 lead.
The Texans offensive tear continued on during the second quarter. Following another stop by the Code Red Defense, Stoever connected with wide receiver Nolan Waida for a 54-yard touchdown, pushing the lead to 280.
The Texans once again got the ball back and immediately capitalized. After catching a touchdown earlier in the game, Morales then broke free for a 29-yard touchdown, extending the lead to 35-0.
Later in the second quarter, Stoever and Morales found each other again, this time on a 39-yard touchdown pass with the lead being extended to 42-0.
Wimberley added their final touchdown of the second quarter when Stoever hit wide receiver Aiden Patek for a 19-yard touchdown pass as the Texans entered halftime with a commanding 49-0 lead.
Running back Josh Belanger scored the Texans lone touchdown of the third quarter on a five-yard run, pushing the lead to 56-0.
In the fourth quarter, running back Wesley Milam scored his first touchdown of the game with a ten-yard score with the lead now at 62-0 following a missed extra point.
Wimberley scored for the final time when quarterback Jackson Parker hit Keith Cook for the score as the Texans made the final score 69-0.
Wimberley will meet the Rockport-Fulton Pirates in the Area Round of the playoffs. The Pirates finished the regular season with a 6-4 overall record and a third place finish in District 15. In Bi-District, the Pirates defeated the Kingsville King Brahmas 55-28.
Kickoff for Wimberley- Rockport-Fulton is set for 7 p.m. Thursday at Warrior Stadium in Corpus Christi.
