Hays County and local highlights: Voter turnout was slightly lower than in 2020. Over 126,000 people cast their ballots in Hays County, which means voter turnout was at 67.89%. In 2020 the turnout rate was 71.20%.
Hays County tends to lean left. While Donald Trump took the presidential slot in the U.S., in Hays County, 52.05% of voters chose the Kamala Harris-Tim Walz ticket over the Donald Trump-JD Vance team. Similarly, for U.S. Senator, more voters in Hays chose Colin Allred over Ted Cruz, although nationwide, Ted Cruz won.
The countywide $440 million transportation bond passed with 55.75% of the voters for the proposition and 44.25% against.
Anthony Hipolito became the county’s new sheriff, defeating Alex Villalobos.
For Hays County Commissioner Precinct 3, Morgan Hammer prevailed over Rebecca Minnick.
In Wimberley, Place 1 on the WISD Board of Trustees went to Andrea Justus. Place 2 went to Lindsey Deringer.
Woodcreek chose Chrys Grummert, Linnea Bailey and Russell Scott for their City Council.
In San Marcos, Mayor Jane Hughson retained her seat as mayor and voters approved a tax hike to help offset the CISD’s $17.62 million shortfall for the 2024-25 fiscal year.
Other highlights: In Austin, Kirk Watson retained his seat as mayor.

Incumbent Donna Campbell retained her seat as State Senator in District 25 and Erin Zwiener retained hers as State Representative in District 45, as did Carrie Isaac as State Representative in District 73.

Court of Appeals District, Place 2; Alicia Key won the position for District Judge, 483rd Judicial District; for Judge, County Court-at-Law Number 3, Elaine S. Brown retained her seat; and for District Clerk, Amanda K. Calvert prevailed.
Michael Torres retained his position as Constable in Precinct 2.
