Available now to children, teens and adults at the Wimberley Valley library is the extensive TumbleBook Library. Thousands of books, graphic novels and non-fiction books, as well as educational videos and Science, Technology, Engineering and Math activities, the online library is also an important tool for emergent readers and learners who are embracing English as a second language.
Many of the books are read-alongs which highlight the words as the book is read out loud. Those books help with word recognition, fluency and correct word pronunciation.
Easily accessible from the library’s webpage, wimberleylibrary. org, patrons can also download a free app for use on a portable device. The library re- cently purchased eight tablets for readers to use while visiting the library.
Moreover, the Wimberley Library generously allows Wimberley ISD schools to use the resource free of charge. Blue Hole Elementary was in the process of applying for a grant to cover the cost of the program when the library announced they would share it with the schools.
Library Director Carolyn Manning and Youth Librarian Beth Jordan say they are excited to offer Tumble-Books to the public as part of the library’s outreach mission.
“We are thrilled to bring TumbleBooks to Wimberley,” said Jordan. “We hope it will build a community of readers.”
When using Tumble-Books with an Englishas- a-Second-Language student and his mother who is currently learning English, Jordan said, “Both of them were excited to use one of the new tablets and headsets recently purchased for the program.”
