“Miracle on 34th Street,” opens November 15 at the Wimberley Players theatre and continues through December 8.
The Christmas time favorite opens with a dilemma faced by a special events director at Macy’s Department store in New York City. Her Thanksgiving Day Parade Santa is drunk. By happenstance, a kindly old man in need of a job, who calls himself Kris Kringle, appears. Complications arise when it’s discovered that Kris believes he is the real Santa Claus who is determined to bring the true spirit of Christmas back to those who doubt. With themes of blossoming love, Christmas magic, and compelling courtroom antics, this heartwarming tale of faith and wonder has something for everyone.
Based on a story by Valentine Davies, an American film and television writer, producer and director, the 1947 film of the same name featured Maureen O’Hara, Natalie Wood and Edmund Gwenn as Kris Kringle. Gwenn won an Academy Award for his memorable performance. Davies won an Academy Award for both Best Writing and Original Story for the film.
Directed by Karin Cunningham, the creative team includes set designer Todd Martin, costume designer Kristin Knipp, music director Robby Vance, props designer Margaret Glaubach, hair and make-up artist Bridget Cook and scenic artist Carroll Dolezal.
