Wimberley defeated the Lago Vista Vikings 44-6 to capture the Texans fourth consecutive district championship. The Texans finish the season with a 8-2 overall record.

The Code Red Defense gave the Texans their first points of the game. After pinning the Vikings deep in their own territory, Wimberley foiled the option play and tackled Lago Vista in their own endzone to go up 2-0.

After receiving the kickoff, the Texans drove down the field before scoring from seven-yards out when quarterback Cody Stoever bulldozed his way into the endzone, extending the lead to 9-0 following an extra point kick from Bo Holeman.

The Code Red Defense forced a Viking punt, allowing the Texans to get the ball at their own 47-yard line.

Wimberley drove down to the Lago Vista six-yard line before Stoever scored his second rushing touchdown of the game, making it a 16-0 score.

Lago Vista answered back by driving down to the Texan five-yard line. But the Code Red Defense responded by stuffing the Vikings on fourth and goal, giving the ball back to the offense.

The Texans were forced to punt the ball with Lago Vista taking over at the Wimberley 44-yard line.

Lago Vista once again faced fourth down from the 33-yard line and fourth and one only for the Code Red Defense to come up with anoth- er stop, giving the ball back to the Texan offense.

Following a big run from running back Maverick Jacobs, the Texans enter Lago Vista territory. With the ball on the Viking three yard line, Stoever avoided the pressure and broke a tackle before finding wide receiver Bryson Anderson in the endzone for the touchdown. Following the extra point kick from Holeman, Wimberley extended their lead to 23-0.

The Code Red Defense forced another punt, allowing the Texans special teams to add another touchdown. Catching the ball at the Wimberley 24yard line, wide receiver Nolan Waide returned the punt 76-yards for the touchdown for a back breaking score to Lago Vista’s comeback hopes.

At halftime, Wimberley lead was up 30-0.

The Texans added another score in the fourth quarter when running Josh Belanger caught the lateral pass and scored from four yards out as the lead was pushed to 37-0. Running back Keith Cook added the final touchdown before Lago Vista could answer as Wimberley cruised to a 44-6 win.

Wimberley enters the playoffs as one of the favorites to win the Region IV title along with the Sinton Pirates and the Cuero Gobblers.

The Texans’ chase for a state title begins in San Antonio as Wimberley takes on the Pearsall Mavericks.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Thursday at Alamo Stadium in San Antonio.
