As the nation awaits the outcome of the general election, NBC reported yesterday that 8,936,078 Texans cast their votes during the early voting period. The count included mail-in ballots.
Of those nearly nine million, 55% were women and 45% were men. Thirty percent of the voters were 65 or older, 28% were 50 to 64, and 16% of the voters fell into the 40 to 49 age bracket. Fourteen percent of the early voters were 30 to 39 and 12% fell into the 18 to 29 category.
Fifty percent of Texas early voters identified as Republican, 37% as Democrats and 13% fell into the “other” category.
According to data from the Hays County Elections Office, nearly 33% of registered voters in Hays County cast their ballots during the first week of early voting. There are 186,492 registered voters in Hays County, and, as of Oct. 27, 61,297 people cast their ballots.
