The Texans moved one step closer to a district championship following Wimberley’s 56-0 win over the Smithville Tigers.
The Texans improved their record to 7-2 overall and 5-0 in district play.
On the first drive of the game, the Texans drove down to the Smithville 14 yard line before wide receiver Nolan Waide rushed the touchdown in. Kicker Bo Holeman tacked on the extra point kick as the Texans took the early 7-0 lead.
The Code Red Defense made a stop before giving the ball back to the offense. The Texans again enforced their will against the Tiger defense, driving all the way down to the Smithville two-yard line before wide receiver Jace Cutrona rushed the ball in for the score, extending the lead to 14-0.
Wimberley tacked on one last touchdown before the first quarter when running back Maverick Jacobs bulldozed his way for a three-yard touchdown run, making it 21-0.
Another stop by the Code Red Defense allowed the Texans once again to get the ball back but this time deep in their own territory.
But the Texans broke the spirit of the Tiger defense when running back Josh Belanger broke free to score an 87-yard touchdown run and push the lead out to 28-0.
Quarterback Cody Stoever delivered his first touchdown pass of the game on the next offensive possession, finding Ty Thames for a 25-yard touchdown to extend the lead to 35-0. Stoever then added the final touchdown right before halftime, rushing for a five-yard touchdown run and making it a 42-0 game.
Belanger added his second touchdown of the night, scoring in the third quarter to make it a 49-0 game.
Wimberley then scored their final touchdown of the night when backup quarterback Jackson Parker hit wide receiver Christian Sansalone for a 42yard touchdown pass to make the final score 56-0.
The Texans rushed for 279 yards on the Tigers with Belanger leading the team in carries with three carries for 129 yards and two touchdowns. Stoever was second in rushing with three carries for 60 yards and one touchdown. Running back Benji Olmedo was third with four carries for 51 yards.
