The Wimberley Independent School District has announced that Marlayna Zachary is named as the next Principal of Blue Hole Primary School. The WISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved Dr. Bonewald’s recommendation at its meeting on October 28. According to a press release from Allen Bruggman, WISD Communications Director, the leadership transition will go into effect at the conclusion of the 2024 Fall semester when current BHP Principal Dara Brooks officially begins her retirement.
“I am honored and thrilled to accept the position of Principal at Blue Hole Primary,” said Zachary. “I am looking forward to working with the dedicated BHP staff and continuing to serve the students and community of WISD in this leadership role. Together, we will strive to create an environment where every student can thrive academically and personally.”
For the last five years, Zachary has served as an assistant principal at Jacob’s Well Elementary. Before joining the Texan Family, Zachary earned a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction with a specialization in Early Childhood Education. She has 23 years of total education experience, serving in many roles throughout her career as a teacher and instructional coach in Hays CISD and Austin ISD prior to her time in WISD. In January of this year, Zachary was named the 2024 Region 13 Assistant Principal of the Year by the Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association (TEPSA).
“Marlayna is a dynamic leader and has played a pivotal role in the student academic growth we have seen at Jacob’s Well Elementary,” said WISD Superintendent, Greg Bonewald. “She really impressed our interview committee with the passion she displayed for serving the unique needs of our youngest students and the teachers and staff who support them. I am confident Mrs. Zachary has the skills and experience needed to successfully lead our Blue Hole Primary campus,” he added.
WISD will begin accepting applications immediately for the Assistant Principal position at JWE, with the goal of having that position filled before the start of the Spring Semester.
