Harvest Moon Dance November 3

The Wimberley Institute of Cultures is once again holding its Harvest Moon dinner and dance at the historic Fischer Hall in Fischer. The annual fundraiser helps support the work of WIC and the Wimberley Valley Museum, located in the Winters- Wimberley house at the corner of River Rd. and RR12, next to the Community Center.

One of the highlights of the Fall season for history lovers and preservationists, the event will take place at Fischer Hall, about 20 minutes from Wimberley. The well-preserved hall, with its beautifully arched and vaulted ceiling, is a fitting location for the fundraiser.

Ticketholders will dance to the live music of the Hot Texas Swing Band. The six-piece cowboy swing band is known for their dynamic performances of “hard drivin’ swing music.” The band gets their high-energy sound by blending a standup bass, fiddle, guitar and accordion with saxophones, trumpet and drums. Vocals are shared by band members.

The group was recognized in 2021 when bandleader Alex Dormont’s “Devil on My Tail” won the Western Swing Song of the Year from the Academy of Western Artists. In the same year, they won the album of the year from the International Western Music Association.

Before dancing begins at 7:30, guests will dine on a catered barbecue dinner from Kelly’s BBQ. The doors to the hall open at 6 p.m. and dinner will be served from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Dancing and music will continue until 10 p.m.

Tickets are $70 per person and are available online at wimwic. org. Any questions can be directed to Tom and Debra Billups 512-9652662.
