Wimberley notched another district win on their belts with a 59-10 win over the Gonzales Apaches.
The win improves the No. 6 ranked Texans record to 6-2 overall and a 4-0 district record to remain in first place in the district standings.
On the first drive of the game, the Texans drove down to the Gonzales 13-yard line before a sack forced Wimberley to kick a field goal. Kicker Bo Holeman booted a 35yard field goal, giving the Texans a 3-0 lead.
Gonzales responded by driving inside the Wimberley 10-yard on their next possession. The Apaches later scored in third and goal on a seven-yard run to go up 7-3.
On the ensuing kickoff, Gonzales recovered the kickoff and got the ball back at the Texan 30-yard line.
However, the Code Red Defense bowed their necks and held Gonzales to just a field goal as Wimberley trailed 10-3.
The Texans responded by going on a 70yard drive, ending in a 40-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Cody Stoever to wide receiver Nolan Waida, tying the game at 10-10 going into the second quarter.
The Code Red Defense forced their first punt of the game, giving the ball back to the offense who looked to take the lead back.
Wimberley took back the lead following a Stoever 14-yard run while breaking several tackles, putting the Texans up 17-10.
The Code Red Defense again forced another Gonzales punt, allowing the offense a chance to extend the lead.
The Texans drove to inside the Gonzales 10-yard line before Stoever scored from seven-yards out on the rushing touchdown, pushing Wimberley’s lead to 24-10.
Gonzales looked to score on their next possession, but the Code Red Defense came up with the turnover as Jace Cutrona picked off the pass for the interception.
Wimberley took advantage of the turnover as Stoever found receiver Jace Morales wide open in the endzone for the 27-yard touchdown pass, extending the lead to 31-10 right before halftime.
Receiving the kickoff to start the second half, Gonzales tried to respond, but Cutrona stopped the drive with his second interception of the night.
After two long passes put the Texans on the Gonzales 12yard line, Wimberley scored from 11-yards out when running back Bennji Olmedo bulldozed his way for the touchdown. Following the extra point kick from Holeman, Wimberley was up 38-10.
Olmedo struck again for the Texan offense on their next drive, rushing for a 43-yard touchdown run, pushing the lead to 45-10.
The Code Red Defense recovered on an errant snap above the head of the quarterback allowing the Texans to take over from the Apache eight-yard line. Running back Josh Belanger scored from seven yards out as the lead went up 52-10.
Quarterback Jackson tacked on the final touchdown for the Texans with a 44yard touchdown pass to Morales to make the final score 59-10.
Wimberley will be back on the road this Friday in a road showdown against the Smithville Tigers. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
