Keep Texas Beautiful events

Keep Texas Beautiful, of which Keep Wimberley Beautiful is an affiliate, has a wonderful program that supports the next generation of community and environmental leaders. It is called the Young Texan Ambassador program.

The program engages young people, aged 15 to 25, and consists of a nine-month program of service and environmental education. Each ambassador completes a cleanup and a capstone service project in their community. This year for the first time, we have a Wimberley High School student that has been selected to be an Ambassador. Sophia Vitela will represent Wimberley and Central Texas.

Participants value connecting with other like-minded young people who share their passion for the environment. The program has been particularly successful in attracting young adults from diverse backgrounds and experiences. Sophia has met with the KWB membership and is currently learning what we do and what she can do to make a positive change in our community. She is planning additional community projects that she can initiate. Our group looks forward to supporting her in her endeavors.

KWB has events during the year in which youth can participate. Reach out if you are looking for student volunteer hours by emailing: keepwimberleybeautiful@ gmail. com Upcoming events:

• Drug Take Back: October 26, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., 200 Stillwater, outside the Constable Precinct 3 Office. Dispose of medication safely and confidentially.

• Shred It & Community Cleanup: free dumpsters: October 26, 8 a.m. to noon or until full, Lions Field on FM 2325 opposite Market Day entrance. Scouts are on-site to help with unloading for Shred It. Donations are welcomed for their scholarship program.
