The Katherine Anne Porter school is holding a “Lights on Afterschool” rally on October 26, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. The event is part of their afterschool Achievement and Commitment to Excellence, or ACE program. Lights on Afterschool is a nationwide event that highlights the impact afterschool programs have on students, families and the community. We want to “shine a light” on the KAPS ACE Program.
ACE programs support communities by giving students access to high quality academic and enrichment activities and family engagement opportunities. The afterschool program fills the gap between the school day and out of school time, offering students a continuous network of support that promotes academic, social and emotional development.
We are celebrating 25 years of KAPS. Visitors are invited to tour the building and learn about its rich history. Games, prizes, music, activity stations, face painting and other activities are part of the rally.
For people interested in lending a hand to the rally, KAPS organizers are looking for volunteers to pass out candy, prizes, or to host games. They are also seeking donations of food and treats.
