Volleyball: Texans shut down Davenport Wolves

The Texans avenged their district loss to Davenport by beating the Wolves 3-1 [2225, 25-23, 25-12, 25-20].

After Wimberley also beat Navarro 3-0 [25-15, 25-14, 25-21] earlier in the week, the Texans and the Wolves are tied atop of the district standings for first place.

In Friday’s game against Davenport, the Texans dropped the first set 25-22. But the Texans bounced back and won a hard fought second set at 25-23.

With momentum on their side, Wimberley dominated Davenport in the third set to win 25-12 as the Texans edged closer for a critical win. Despite the Wolves’ best efforts, Wimberley closed out the fourth set, winning the fourth set 25-20 and taking the game 3-1.

Senior Laney Hennessee led the team in kills with an eye-popping 29 kills followed by junior Addison Parks with 12.

Juniors Mariah McCoy and Cameron Thames and sophomore Sklar Mears led the team in blocks with four as the Texans had 15 total blocks.

Junior Skylar Herring led the team in digs, with 15 followed by seniors Addie Laney and Rhagen Masur with 14. Hennessee had 11 digs to complete the double- double followed by junior Carson Peoples with 10.

Herring led the team in assists with 25 followed by Peoples with 24.

Wimberley returns to play this week to close out the regular season.

The Texans will host Bandera on Tuesday before finishing out the regular season at home against rival Canyon Lake. With two wins, the Texans will clinch a share of the district championship and will be the No. 1 team representing District 26 in the 4A D2 playoffs.

Tip-off for both games will start at 6 p.m.
