The Wimberley girls’ basketball team kicked off district play with a good bounce as the Lady Texans knocked off rival Canyon Lake 58-20.

Wimberley improves their record to 17-10 overall with a 1-0 district record.

Going into hostile territory at Canyon Lake, the Lady Texans needed to put pressure on the Lady Hawks.

In the first half the Lady Texans had accomplished that as Wimberley took a 21-8 lead with 4:45 left in the second quarter.

At halftime, Wimberley extended the lead to make it 25-10.

The third quarter saw a tremendous defensive effort by the Lady Texans as they held Canyon Lake to just five points during the period.

Offensively, Wimberley continued to push the ball and scored 15 points during the period to take a 40-15 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Wimberley then held Canyon Lake to another five points in the final quarter as the Lady Texans rolled to a 58-20 win over the Lady Hawks.

Lily Dela Rosa led the team in scoring with 23 points, which included five made three pointers in the game.

Brooke Burcham was second in scoring with 13 points followed by Raygan Pack with nine points.

Dela Rosa led the team in rebounds with eight while Laney Hennessee was second with seven rebounds.

Wimberley also wrapped up non-district play last week with a win over the Comfort Deer in a 62-25 victory.

Dela Rosa led the team in scoring with 16 points followed by Hennessee with 12 points.

Hennessee led the team in rebounds with eight followed by Pack and Mackenzie Haston with seven rebounds each.

The Lady Texans continue their district schedule for this week as Wimberley hosts Bandera on Tuesday night before travel to Fredericksburg to take the No. 3 ranked Battlin’ Billies on Friday night.
