Random people I admire

Is It Just Me?

Join Wimberley humorist Susan Rigby as she attempts to navigate “the small stuff.”

People who can brush their teeth and eat three meals (and snacks) and still have a spot free shirt.

I often have to change my shirt before I even leave the house, due to spots that seem to magically appear. Then, I spend too much money on products to try to get the spots out, to no avail. I could save so much money if I could figure out how to stay spot-free.

People who can say “it is only a snake” and go on with their yard work.

I see a snake and do a jig around the yard to get to safety, even if it isn’t chasing me. I know that most snakes aren’t harmful, but I can’t remember which are, so the jig continues.

People you can visit without advanced notice.

Their homes are always ready for company. If someone comes to my house unexpectedly, they often ask if I am moving. Sometimes, I just say I am preparing for an (eventual) move.

People who know left from right and north from south.

They say they can tell by looking at the sun. Sometimes when I am driving, my passenger will quietly note “No, your other left.” If anyone tells me to meet them at the east side of a building, I end up walking the total circumference, trying to look nonchalant as if I just wanted to add steps to my day. If they say, turn south at the next intersection, I ask them which fast food restaurant is on the south side. And a compass makes my head hurt.

People who can make a chocolate bar last a week.

They eat one little square a day. How can anyone unwrap a chocolate bar and only eat one square. I did try that. I left my chocolate bar in the kitchen and broke off one section as I headed to my sofa. Within a few minutes, I was back for the next section, and the next. At least I did add some steps to my day. That should counter some of the extra calories in eating the whole bar.
