Ready to fight against quarry project

I am adamantly opposed to the approval of the application by Far South Mining LLC for a rock crushing quarry permit at the Needmore Ranch in the Wimberley valley.

I am adamantly opposed to the approval of the application by Far South Mining LLC for a rock crushing quarry permit at the Needmore Ranch in the Wimberley valley.

I bought my property here in 1983 and, like so many of my neighbors, I chose to live this rural setting for its unparalleled natural beauty and pristine environment.

My family camped every summer at Little Arkansas, (now Needmore) on the Blanco River surrounded by creeks, a waterfall with a fern grotto, wild fig trees and deep swimming holes. When the property sold, I was disappointed there would be no more public access but John O’Quinn was a generous environmentalist and a good steward of this genuine one-of-a-kind piece of natural Texas.

I know that Mr. LaMontia is the new owner of this state treasure, but please do not give him permission to exploit it. He was quoted in the Wimberley View saying “ When you drive around San Antonio there’s rock quarries in San Antonio in the city limits and life goes on.”

The people of this valley did not choose to live in San Antonio or anything like San Antonio. Just because Mr. LaMontia needs more than just owning Needmore Ranch, the prettiest piece of the hill country I’ve ever seen, he should not be allowed to harm it. I think we can all agree that a rock crushing quarry qualifies as a harm. Allowing this industry in our ‘Little Piece of Heaven’ sets a horrible precedent so please join me in fighting this tooth and nail.
