Library celebrates anniversary and grand opening with community event

The Wimberley Village Library celebrated its 50th Anniversary and Grand Opening last week with an event distinguished by joy, laughter and heartfelt connections. Patrons, friends and families came together to commemorate the library’s half-century milestone and its transformation into a first-class community asset.

The Wimberley Chamber of Commerce was on hand to officiate a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the library’s newly expanded wing, and Wimberley Valley Radio, KWVH, provided live coverage of the festivities. The Wimberley Village Library Foundation and the Friends of the Wimberley Village Library engaged visitors with informational tables that showcased their ongoing support of the library.

Dell Hood, Library Board of Trustees President, autographed copies of his newly released book, “Wimberley Village Library: The First Fifty Years,” after delivering an inspiring speech that captured the essence of the library’s rich history. Guests enjoyed a musical performance by members of the Starlight Symphony that added further ambiance to the day’s celebration.

Dr. Patrick Cox served as the master of ceremonies. Library Director Carolyn Manning expressed heartfelt thanks to the library’s staff, praising their dedication and hard work to make the library a model hub of learning and connection.

Special guest speakers were Jim Chiles, City of Wimberley Mayor; Rebecca Minnick, City of Wimberley Council Member; and Jeff Rasco, City of Woodcreek Mayor.

Adding a whimsical touch to the celebration were kites artfully displayed throughout the library. Installed by artist Terry Lee in collaboration with the Watershed Association, the vibrant works by Pete Shurgy, Joel K. Scholtz and five other fine artists will remain on display until April 2025.

Throughout the event, members of the library staff, the library foundation and the library “Friends” extended their deep gratitude to the Wimberley community for their unwavering support.
